SOL

2019

Sol is a wake-up lamp aimed at giving its user more energy during the dark winter periods. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a disease that threatens 8% of the population in Sweden. It is a problem without a scientifically proven reason, but with a solution. From many different treatments such as medication and psychotherapy, light treatment is the most easily available solution that can be used against SAD. The current market for SAD lamps is bland and uninteresting. Through a personally challenging exploration within form, aesthetics, material, and production, Sol was created. Due to it’s unique design, Sol was selected out of 30 projects to be exhibited at the Form & Design Center in Malmö to represent the School of Industrial Design Lund. Furthermore, Sol was also exhibited at Lund University. In June 2019 it was featured in Form Magazine. In 2022, Sol won the People’s Choice Award for Lamp The Competition and was consequently featured in the Members Spotlight on the IDSA website and on Design Milk.

Winner of the People’s Choice Award in Lamp The Competition 2022.

Process Work

SOL was manufactured locally in southern Sweden out of sand casted aluminium, and hardened glass.
