Ripple

Ripple is a light aiming to present a window for contemplation and distraction within the palliative care environment.

In an effort to mimic the slow, perpetual phases of daylight, this installation consists of a suspended natural form grazed by opposing narrow beam fixtures performing alternatingdissolves. These dissolves create a continuous, end-to-end, transition between color temperatures ranging from 3000k to 6500k. While this temperature range is visually representative of the transition from dawn to dusk it also produces hues that are within a range proven to induce a calming physiological effect.2

By referencing the cyclical metamorphosis of natural light and shadow across Earth’s surface, while subtly manipulating elements of color and time, Ripple aims to produce a sense of consistency and certainty often deprived from clinical settings.
