Giorgi

2019

During my time at Vagabond, I was given the opportunity to design my own upper of the previously existing Giorgi shoe for an exclusive online Black Friday drop. The design is based off of research made analysing trends seen in fashion from the runway and the streets. During the making of this shoe I followed the design process from sketch to finished product, whilst also having contact with the factory in Vietnam, following its release.

Before putting pen to paper, its important to see whats already out there by analysing trends in magazines, fashion reports, runway shows, and street photography. During the time the new upper for Giorgi was designed, the mens fashion world was seeing an influx of modern interpretations of classic suiting silhouettes such as oversized trousers and coats. Alongside this, there was an increased interest for the life outdoors with shoes becoming more traction focused with details such as lug soles and durable materials.

The new Giorgi upper was a response to this movement at the time.

A series of sketches on top of the pre-existing Giorgi sole. After having decided the general design direction, it’s all about the details. Here are examples of mixing and matching ideas to try and find the perfect combination.

The materials for the new Giorgi upper were a combination of rubber, polido leather, and elastic webbing.

The end result is an elegant, yet highly versatile shoe that blends form, inspired by current fashion trends, and function giving you a boot you can wear every day. Here is a collection of images from their release.
